During an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Brad Smith, President and Vice Chair of Microsoft (MSFT), emphasized the urgent need for the government to expedite the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI).

Smith believes that AI holds immense potential for the betterment of humanity, surpassing the impact of any previous invention, CNN reported.

He highlighted the widespread applications of AI in various fields, including medicine, drug discovery, disease diagnosis, and disaster response.

Smith mentioned how AI can assist organizations like the Red Cross in efficiently locating and aiding vulnerable individuals in the aftermath of a disaster.

Contrary to common misconceptions, Smith emphasized that AI is not as enigmatic as it may seem, and its capabilities are constantly advancing.

As the technology becomes increasingly powerful, it becomes crucial for regulations to keep pace with its development in order to ensure its responsible and ethical use.
