NASA conducted its inaugural public meeting on UFOs on Wednesday, marking one year since initiating a study to investigate unexplained sightings.
The space agency broadcasted a lengthy hearing that showcased an independent panel of experts, the Associated Press reports.
The team consists of 16 scientists and various other specialists handpicked by NASA, including retired astronaut Scott Kelly, who holds the distinction of being the first American to spend nearly a year in space.
Regrettably, some committee members have faced “online abuse” for their involvement, which undermines the scientific process. NASA’s Dan Evans mentioned that the agency’s security team is addressing this issue.
Evans emphasized the significance of employing a rigorous and evidence-based approach to distinguish fact from fiction, as reported by the AP.
He stated, “It’s precisely this rigorous, evidence-based approach that allows one to separate the fact from fiction.”
The study serves as an initial endeavor to shed light on enigmatic sightings in the sky, referred to by NASA as UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena).
