Russia claims to destroy Ukraine’s ‘last warship’

On Wednesday, Russia’s defense ministry claimed that it had destroyed Ukraine’s purported “last warship” in a missile strike that occurred two days prior at the port of Odesa, according to their statement.

The Ukrainian navy has chosen not to comment on the matter.

During a daily briefing on the ongoing conflict, Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov stated that the vessel named Yuriy Olefirenko was targeted while docked at the port of Odesa, Reuters reported.

He mentioned that “high-precision weapons,” referring to missiles, were employed in the attack on May 29. However, no further specifics were provided.

Oleh Chalyk, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian navy, declared that he would not respond to any assertions made by Russia.

He further stated that the Ukrainian navy will not disclose any information concerning losses incurred during the war.

On Monday, Ukrainian officials reported that Russia had rendered five aircraft inoperable during an assault on a military target in western Ukraine.

They also alleged that heavy air strikes conducted by Russia caused a fire at the Black Sea port of Odesa. The accounts from both sides have not been independently verified by Reuters or other sources.
