General Motors and Tesla have revealed a new agreement, stating that General Motors’ electric vehicles (EVs) will have access to a significant portion of Tesla’s expansive charging network from early next year.
This development follows the news that Ford is also adopting Tesla’s connector and integrating its EVs with around 12,000 of Tesla’s approximately 17,000 charging stations.
Both General Motors and Ford, major players in the Detroit automotive industry, are actively working to establish Tesla’s connector as the industry standard, the Associated Press reports.
The CEOs of General Motors and Tesla, Mary Barra and Elon Musk, respectively, announced this collaboration during a conversation on Twitter Spaces.
Notably, this discussion occurred just two weeks after Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, teamed up with Elon Musk to announce Ford’s plans to connect its electric vehicles with Tesla’s vast EV-charging network, which is the largest in the country.
Farley also mentioned that Ford would adopt Tesla’s connector, departing from the industry’s conventional connector.
