A convicted felon from Alabama who fled prison last year with the assistance of a jail official, who tragically took her own life to avoid arrest, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The defendant, Casey White, aged 39, appeared before a Lauderdale County courtroom on Thursday and pleaded guilty to escape, Fox News has reported.

In exchange for his guilty plea, the felony murder charge relating to Vicky White’s death was dismissed. Casey White accepted the maximum sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

During the court proceedings, White addressed the courtroom and expressed his remorse.

According to WHNT, he stated, “I feel like the most hated man in the world. I loved Vicky and I wouldn’t drag her name through the mud for anyone in this courtroom.

Vicky took me out because she said, ‘Right was right. Wrong is wrong.’ She was the first person to show me affection and give me a hug in six years.”

The tragic case highlights the complex emotions and circumstances surrounding this escape and the subsequent loss of life, leaving a lasting impact on all those involved.
