According to the police, a shooting occurred in downtown Denver while fans were celebrating the Nuggets’ first NBA championship win.
The incident is believed to have been triggered by a drug deal that went awry.
The violence resulted in 10 individuals being injured, including one of the two individuals who were arrested in connection with the shooting, the Associated Press reports.
Chief Ron Thomas stated during a news conference that all of the injured individuals, comprising nine men and one woman, are expected to recover.
Among the wounded, approximately five or six individuals are believed to be innocent bystanders who were not involved in the drug deal.
The shooting took place about a mile away from Ball Arena, where the Nuggets had triumphed over the Miami Heat on Monday night. Around 20 rounds were fired at the scene.
During the investigation, five handguns were discovered, but further testing is required to determine if they were used in the shooting, as stated by the police chief.
In addition to the firearms, a substantial quantity of suspected fentanyl pills and cash were found at the scene, according to Commander Matt Clark.
Of the 10 individuals transported to the hospital, four underwent emergency surgery simultaneously at Denver Health Medical Center.
As of Tuesday afternoon, five individuals remained in fair condition at the hospital, as reported by Dr. Eric Campion, a trauma surgeon.
The shooting incident unfolded as thousands of people gathered downtown to celebrate the Nuggets’ victory.
Despite the late hour, a significant number of police officers were present in the area when the gunfire erupted.
