On Wednesday morning, House Republicans initiated an investigation into Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, citing allegations of inadequate management of the southwest border.

Mayorkas has faced strong criticism from Republicans regarding his handling of the Department of Homeland Security, particularly in relation to the influx of migrants attempting to enter the country from the southern border, USA Today has reported.

Additionally, he has been condemned for allegedly failing to adequately prepare for the conclusion of Title 42, a policy implemented during the pandemic that significantly limited avenues for asylum-seeking migrants.

Representative Mark Green of Tennessee, Chair of the Homeland Security Committee, announced the launch of the investigation ahead of a hearing addressing border security and immigration policy.

In a press conference, Green accused Mayorkas of willful neglect of his responsibilities and held him accountable for the rise in migrant crossings and the loss of American lives due to drug overdoses.
