According to pro-Kremlin war reporter Yury Kotyonok, Major General Sergei Goryachev, the Chief of Staff of the 35th Combined Arms Army, was reportedly killed in a missile strike in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region during Ukraine’s counteroffensive. The incident occurred on Russia Day, the national holiday of Russia.
Yury Kotyonok expressed his condolences on Telegram, stating, “War takes away the best. The army today lost one of its brightest and most effective military leaders, who possessed the highest professionalism and personal courage.”
Vladimir Rogov, a Russian proxy leader in the Zaporizhzhia region, also used Telegram to express his sincere condolences to General Goryachev’s family, the Daily Beast has reported.
Pro-Kremlin military bloggers claimed that Goryachev, along with several other high-ranking Russian officers, was killed in a Storm Shadow strike.
However, the deaths of these officers have not been confirmed by Russia’s Defense Ministry.
