Severe weather struck Jasper County, Mississippi on Sunday night, resulting in the unfortunate death of one individual and causing injuries to nearly twenty others, according to officials from the emergency management department.
The impact of this weather event left behind significant structural damage in Bay Springs and Louin, with preliminary reports from the National Weather Service suggesting the presence of a tornado.
Currently, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is evaluating the extent of the damage caused by the storms, revealing that over 49,000 customers in the central part of the state are without power, CNN reported.
These outages add to the growing number of affected individuals, reaching nearly half a million across Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Mississippi, who have been enduring the aftermath of previous storm rounds compounded by record-breaking heat.
The threat of severe weather persists on Monday, with a Level 2 out of 5 slight risk designation across various parts of the Gulf Coast and Southeast regions.
Areas such as New Orleans and Baton Rouge in Louisiana, Jacksonville in Florida, Mobile in Alabama, and Savannah in Georgia are included in this risk zone.
The primary concerns revolve around damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
