On Tuesday, House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) expressed his determination to continue investigating Hunter Biden, despite what he referred to as a lenient plea deal reached with federal prosecutors.

Comer stated that the charges against Hunter Biden and the favorable plea deal he received would not hinder the Oversight Committee’s ongoing investigation.

He emphasized their commitment to uncovering the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in his family’s alleged schemes, The Hill has reported.

According to court documents filed on Tuesday, the president’s son agreed to plead guilty to two minor tax crimes and has also accepted participation in a pretrial diversion program for a separate charge related to illegal possession of a firearm while being addicted to a controlled substance.

Comer added, “The Department of Justice’s charges against President Biden’s son Hunter expose a justice system that operates on different tiers.”

He expressed his concern that Hunter Biden received a lenient punishment, contrasting it with the House Oversight Committee’s growing evidence that suggests the Bidens were involved in corruption, influence peddling, and potentially bribery.

Republican lawmakers have been accusing federal law enforcement agencies of employing a “two-tiered system of justice” in recent weeks, claiming that conservatives are unfairly targeted.

These accusations gained momentum following former President Trump’s indictment on 37 counts related to mishandling classified materials, as reported by The Hill.

On Tuesday, Trump echoed similar grievances, suggesting that the Justice Department treated Hunter Biden’s case as a mere “traffic ticket.”
