Tragic incidents of mass shootings have occurred in various communities across the United States, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 individuals and leaving over 100 injured, as reported by CBS Chicago’s Charlie De Mar.
These shootings occur amidst a concerning escalation in homicides and violence witnessed in recent years, which experts believe has been exacerbated by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Incidents involving multiple fatalities or injuries took place in locations such as suburban Chicago, Washington state, central Pennsylvania, St. Louis, Idaho, Southern California, and Baltimore, among others, CBS News reported.
Over the weekend, one such shooting occurred in Willowbrook, Illinois, where a suburban Chicago parking lot served as the backdrop for a tragic event.
During an early Sunday gathering to celebrate Juneteenth, attended by hundreds of people, at least 23 individuals were shot, one of whom lost their life.
The DuPage County sheriff’s office described the gathering as initially peaceful before abruptly descending into violence, as multiple individuals fired shots into the crowd.
