Democratic Representative Adam Schiff faced censure by the House of Representatives for his involvement in congressional investigations concerning former President Donald Trump, becoming the 25th House lawmaker in U.S. history to receive this punishment.

The vote on the measure resulted in a tally of 213 to 209, strictly along party lines, with six Republicans abstaining. In response to the outcome, Democratic members in the chamber vocally expressed their disapproval, chanting “Shame! Shame! Shame!”

Following the vote, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy requested Schiff’s presence in the well to formally reprimand him, CBS News has reported.

Democrats, however, congregated around Schiff, chanting his name as a show of support. Reflecting on the situation, Schiff addressed his Republican colleagues who initiated the resolution, expressing gratitude for their actions.
