According to multiple witnesses present in the courtroom, a supporter of Donald Trump, who participated in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and assaulted a D.C. police officer with a stun gun, defiantly shouted “Trump won” after receiving a 12.5-year prison sentence on Wednesday, as reported by NBC News.
The individual in question is Daniel “D.J.” Rodriguez, a resident of California who had traveled to Washington, D.C. with fellow Trump supporters associated with a Telegram group known as the “PATRIOTS 45 MAGA Gang.”
In February, Rodriguez pleaded guilty to several charges, including felony conspiracy, obstruction of an official proceeding, tampering with documents or proceedings, and inflicting bodily injury on officers using a deadly or dangerous weapon, NBC News reported.
On the evening of January 5, prior to attending a rally held by Trump at the White House Ellipse, Rodriguez expressed his intentions in the “MAGA Gang” Telegram chat, stating, “There will be blood” and proclaiming, “Welcome to the revolution.”
On January 6, after participating in the violent events that unfolded in the lower west tunnel of the Capitol, where some of the most intense clashes occurred, Rodriguez assaulted Officer Michael Fanone. He later boasted about his actions in the Telegram chat.
