A reliable source confirmed to NBC News on Thursday that the father and aunt of Rep. George Santos, a Republican from New York, have acted as guarantors for his $500,000 bond.

Santos was charged with over a dozen federal counts last month.

Gercino Dos Santos, the congressman’s father, and Elma Santos Preven, his aunt, assumed the responsibility of being suretors for the bond, NBC News reported.

Notably, they did not have to provide any upfront payment; their obligation to pay only arises if Santos violates the conditions of his release.

ABC News initially reported their involvement, and moments before noon on Thursday, a document from a federal court in New York was released, featuring the signatures of the family members.

U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert had previously ordered that their identities be disclosed to the public.
