
During a meeting between Chinese Defence Minister Li Shangfu and his Vietnamese counterpart, Li expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Vietnam in enhancing high-level communication and cooperation between their respective militaries.
The Chinese defence ministry stated that Li highlighted the chaotic and interconnected nature of the international situation, emphasizing the security challenges faced by the Asia-Pacific region.
Li stated that China and Vietnam should continue to work together, joining hands and uniting closely in the new journey of socialism, Reuters reported.
He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the common strategic interests of both countries and making positive contributions to regional peace and stability.
Li further mentioned that the military relations between China and Vietnam have developed well, expressing China’s readiness to elevate these relations to a new level.
The meeting took place following the visit of the USS Ronald Reagan to the Vietnamese port of Danang on Sunday, marking the third time a U.S. aircraft carrier has made such a stop since the end of the Vietnam War.
