Cuba, Russia envisage technical-military cooperation

According to the official newspaper Granma, Cuba and Russia, both facing sanctions from Western nations, expressed their intention to enhance “technical-military” cooperation.

The proposal was discussed during a visit by Cuba’s Armed Forces Minister, Alvaro Lopez Miera, to Moscow, where he met with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu. The details of the plan were not disclosed.

Shoigu was quoted by Granma as stating that Russia aims to collaborate with Cuba on a series of technical-military projects, Barrons reported.

He also emphasized that Cuba has been and continues to be Russia’s most significant ally in the region.

Russia’s Sputnik news agency mentioned that Shoigu referred to both existing and promising military projects.

Despite a recent failed revolt targeting Shoigu by the Russian mercenary group Wagner, Moscow has been trying to portray a return to normalcy in their bilateral relations.
