A search operation was underway on Saturday, led by local, state, and federal authorities, to locate an escaped inmate described as “very dangerous” who had fled from a jail in northwestern Pennsylvania.
The inmate, identified as Michael Burham, 34 years old, managed to escape from the Warren jail by utilizing bed sheets and climbing on exercise equipment to exit through a window, according to officials.
Burham, who had been held on charges including kidnapping, burglary, and others, with a bail set at $1 million, was also a suspect in a homicide investigation, as stated by the Warren police. Lt. Col.
George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police addressed a news conference on Saturday, mentioning that law enforcement believed Burham was still in the Warren area, the Associated Press reports.
He also mentioned that Burham might have changed his clothing since his escape, as he was last seen wearing a blue denim coat and an orange jail jumpsuit.
Bivens described Burham as a “self-taught survivalist with military experience” and raised the possibility that he could be hiding in a wooded area.
The public was urged to exercise caution as Burham was considered highly dangerous, and any unusual or suspicious activities were to be reported, as stated in a Facebook post by the police.
To aid in his capture, the U.S. Marshals Service offered a reward of $7,500, while Crime Stoppers provided an additional $2,000 reward, according to Bivens.
