Authorities installed by Russia in the Crimean peninsula announced on Sunday that they had successfully shot down a cruise missile near the city of Kerch, resulting in a temporary suspension of traffic on the Kerch bridge connecting the annexed region to Russia.

Sergei Aksyonov, the governor appointed by Moscow for Crimea, stated that the missile interception carried out by Russian air defenses did not cause any harm or casualties, the Associated Press reported.

However, he did not provide specific details about the missile’s type or origin.

In the neighboring Russian region of Rostov, officials also reported shooting down a missile on Sunday.

Governor Vasily Golubev stated that the missile was of Ukrainian origin, and the debris caused damage to the roofs of several buildings.

No casualties have been reported so far.
