According to sources familiar with the matter, a Blue Origin rocket engine experienced an explosion during testing last month, resulting in significant damage and potential implications for both the company’s customers and its own rocket.

The incident occurred on June 30 at a facility in West Texas owned by Jeff Bezos’ space company, CNBC reported.

The BE-4 engine, which was being tested, detonated approximately 10 seconds into the firing, causing a dramatic explosion that destroyed the engine and inflicted significant damage to the test stand infrastructure.

Several individuals who have seen video footage of the event shared these details with CNBC.

The engine that suffered the explosion was nearing the completion of its testing phase and was expected to finish in July.

Subsequently, it was intended to be delivered to Blue Origin’s customer, United Launch Alliance (ULA), for utilization in ULA’s second Vulcan rocket launch, as per the sources.
