Investigators suspect that a Russian naval captain was fatally shot by a hitman who allegedly tracked him down using a popular fitness app.

According to the authorities, Stanislav Rzhitsky, aged 42, was jogging in the city of Krasnodar, Russia, when he was attacked at approximately 6 am on Monday.

The Russian investigators have pointed towards Ukraine as the possible culprit behind the incident, suggesting that Rzhitsky was located by an assassin who utilized a jogging app, the Daily Sun reported.

It is believed that Rzhitsky had left his Strava page visible to the public, which displayed a route he frequently took. The authorities suspect that the assailant carefully studied this information.

The former captain had recently been involved as a mobilization official in Vladimir Putin’s conflict against Ukraine.

As Rzhitsky jogged near the Olympus Arena in Krasnodar city, he was shot four times. The bullets, fired from a Makarov pistol, struck him in the back and chest. Unfortunately, Rzhitsky succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
