Authorities reported that on Sunday, a man suspected of four killings near Atlanta was shot and killed by officers during a shootout.
The incident resulted in a sheriff’s deputy and two police officers sustaining injuries while attempting to apprehend the suspect.
The man, identified as Andre Longmore, was shot during an intensive search for the 40-year-old suspect, the Associated Press reported.
The exchange of gunfire occurred a day after the shocking shootings took place in a peaceful neighborhood in Hampton, located south of Georgia’s main city.
Officials stated that Longmore was killed in suburban Jonesboro, approximately 15 miles (25 kilometers) north of Hampton.
The pursuit began when a Henry County sheriff’s deputy spotted the stolen SUV that Longmore had taken from one of the victims.
The deputy initiated a chase and requested backup. Clayton County police stated that an exchange of gunfire ensued between the officers and Longmore. Subsequently, Longmore fled the scene.
The incident underscores the risks faced by law enforcement officials during the pursuit of dangerous suspects, and investigations into the incident are likely to continue.
