Google is currently conducting tests on a product that utilizes artificial intelligence technology to create news stories.
The product, internally referred to as Genesis, has been presented to news organizations like The New York Times, The Washington Post, and News Corp, the owner of The Wall Street Journal, as per information from three individuals familiar with the matter.
The AI-powered tool can absorb information, such as current events’ details, and autonomously generate news articles.
Those who provided this insight requested anonymity to protect the confidentiality of the product’s discussions, DNYUZ has reported.
According to one of the sources familiar with the product, Google perceives its AI technology as a potential personal assistant for journalists, automating certain tasks to create more time for other aspects of their work.
The company views this as responsible technology that could guide the publishing industry away from the potential pitfalls of generative AI.
However, some executives who were presented with Google’s pitch found it disconcerting and unsettling, preferring not to disclose their identity while discussing this confidential matter.
These individuals felt that the pitch seemed to overlook the effort required to produce accurate and artful news stories.
As of now, a Google spokeswoman has not provided an immediate response to requests for comments, while The New York Times and The Washington Post have chosen not to comment on the matter.
