Youngkin approval rating at record high amid 2024 speculation

A recent poll released on Monday indicates that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin’s (R) approval rating has reached a record high, sparking speculation about his potential political ambitions.

According to the Morning Consult survey, 57 percent of Virginia voters expressed their approval of Youngkin’s job performance, while his disapproval rating stands at 32 percent.

This data shows a consistent improvement in the governor’s popularity, as he previously held a 56 percent approval rating and a 32 percent disapproval rating in April, The Hill reports.

In December, Youngkin’s approval rating was at 55 percent, with a 32 percent disapproval rating. Last April, he received a 53 percent approval rating and a 35 percent disapproval rating.

At the start of his first term as governor in January 2022, Youngkin’s approval rating was 51 percent, while his disapproval rating was 35 percent.

Governor Youngkin has been considered a potential 2024 Republican presidential contender, particularly as other candidates like Governor Ron DeSantis (R) face challenges gaining traction against former President Trump.

Despite this speculation, Youngkin recently stated that he intends to focus on Virginia’s upcoming legislative elections in November. However, he has not explicitly ruled out the possibility of a presidential campaign.
