A Kansas City, Kansas man, John McGriff, is facing murder charges for the killing of his father and the stabbing of a woman, followed by being shot and wounded by the police.
On Tuesday, John McGriff, 32, was charged with second-degree murder for the attack that occurred on July 18.
He had previously been charged with aggravated battery, mistreatment of a dependent adult or elder person, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, the Associated Press has reported.
As of now, there is no attorney listed for McGriff, and prosecutors have set his bond at $300,000.
The incident unfolded when police were called to a scene where a woman had been stabbed on a sidewalk after finishing her volunteer work at a nearby church’s food pantry.
While rushing the injured woman to the hospital, officers spotted John McGriff and demanded that he drop his knife.
However, he charged at the officers, leading them to fire at him, causing him to be wounded, according to a police news release.
After investigating further, the police discovered that John McGriff’s father, 72-year-old Samuel McGriff, had been fatally stabbed in the apartment they shared nearby.
