A tragic incident unfolded in Connecticut when a pastor, who had just checked his mailbox, was struck and killed by a patrol cruiser driven by Stamford Officer Zachary Lockwood.

The devastating accident occurred on a street with a right curve at approximately 4:12 p.m., and the Rev. Tommie Jackson, 69, succumbed to his injuries.

The Connecticut State Police are handling the investigation into the crash, NBC News reported.

The loss deeply affected both the city and the police department, as Rev. Tommie Jackson was not only an advisor to the department but also had a personal connection through his wife, who served as a commissioner.

The community mourns the passing of the respected pastor, and authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

After noticing Jackson, Officer Lockwood attempted to avoid the collision with an evasive steering maneuver, but tragically, the impact was unavoidable.

Lockwood rendered immediate aid by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Jackson until medical help arrived, but the injuries proved fatal, and Jackson passed away at Stamford Hospital.

Officer Lockwood, who joined the department in April 2022, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The community grieves the loss of a cherished pastor and offers condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
