According to a report from the Nikkei newspaper on Thursday, Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) is set to offer its advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the Japanese government.

This development comes after Microsoft improved the processing capabilities of its data centers located within Japan, Reuters has reported.

The Japanese Digital Agency plans to conduct a trial run of the AI technology, which was developed by OpenAI, a startup backed by Microsoft.

The trial is scheduled to begin in the autumn and will involve using the AI for various tasks, such as generating meeting minutes and analyzing government statistics.

This deployment of Microsoft’s technology in Japan marks the first time the company’s AI services will be utilized outside of Europe, presenting a significant milestone in the global expansion of their AI capabilities.
