Bolivian President Luis Arce is set to attend the upcoming BRICS summit in South Africa next month, according to the country’s foreign minister.

Bolivia aims to forge stronger partnerships and attract investments to enhance its commodities exports and develop its emerging lithium industry, Reuters reports.

“We are committed to pursuing sustainable and inclusive development while strengthening cooperation with these emerging economies,” stated Bolivian Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta during a press conference.

President Arce will participate alongside senior officials from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) during the annual meeting in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24.

The key topic for discussion will revolve around the potential admission of new member countries into the geopolitical bloc.

Over 40 nations have expressed interest in joining BRICS, as reported by a South African diplomat earlier this month.

While an official list has not been released, countries that have previously shown interest include Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Cuba, and Kazakhstan.
