Fulton County DA says ‘we’re ready to go’ on Trump election probe charging decisions

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis reiterated her intention to reveal charging decisions by September 1st in her investigation into attempts by former President Donald Trump and his supporters to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.

“We’ve completed the work,” Willis stated during a recent NBC interview at a back-to-school event. “Over the course of two-and-a-half years, we’ve been diligently working, and now we’re ready to proceed.”

In a letter sent to the chief judge of the Fulton County courthouse in May, Willis indicated that charging decisions related to the investigation into potential criminal interference in Georgia’s 2020 general election could be announced in early August.

She requested that no in-person trials or hearings be scheduled during the weeks of August 7th and 14th, NBC News has reported.

Additionally, Willis informed law enforcement in a separate letter that she intends to announce charging decisions during the state Superior Court term that commenced this month.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney has seated two grand juries for this term, which will extend until September 1st.

These grand juries are likely to determine whether Donald Trump and his associates will face charges related to election interference.

In anticipation of people’s reactions to the charging decisions, Willis mentioned during the weekend interview that she is preparing for potential responses.
