Ron DeSantis agrees to debate Gavin Newsom on Fox News

Governors Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom have tentatively agreed to a debate, with Fox News hosting the event.

These two prominent politicians, representing opposite ends of the ideological spectrum and hailing from Florida and California, respectively, have engaged in numerous clashes over their state policies.

DeSantis, a Republican, is vying for the Republican presidential nomination and has been closely linked to former President Donald Trump, Politico has reported.

Meanwhile, Newsom, a Democrat, has focused on supporting President Joe Biden and has sidestepped questions about his own presidential ambitions.

Initially, a showdown between the two appeared unlikely as DeSantis focused on his presidential campaign.

However, Newsom persisted for months in trying to convince his counterpart to join him on a debate stage.

Finally, on Wednesday, DeSantis accepted the challenge during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, stating, “Absolutely I’m game. Just tell me when and where.”

Newsom’s office had previously sent a formal request to Fox News, suggesting debate dates of Nov. 8 or Nov. 10, with Hannity as the sole moderator for a 90-minute live forum, without an in-studio audience.

The potential debate would be an unprecedented event in modern presidential politics, offering a new platform for DeSantis to showcase his record in Florida amid recent challenges and controversies.

It presents an opportunity for both governors to present their positions and engage in a dynamic exchange, setting the stage for a compelling political face-off.
