Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has taken the action of suspending the chief state prosecutor in Orlando on Wednesday, alleging her ineffectiveness and failure to fulfill her responsibilities due to what he perceived as leniency towards violent criminals.

Mr. DeSantis has placed Monique H. Worrell, the elected state attorney for Florida’s Ninth Judicial Circuit encompassing Orange and Osceola counties, under suspension.

This decision came as a result of her handling of three specific cases, one of which involved an individual who wounded two Orlando police officers during the past weekend, DNYUZ has reported.

Notably, this marks the second occasion within a year that Mr. DeSantis, a Republican and a presidential candidate, has taken the significant and rare step of removing an elected state attorney from office.

Notably, both instances have involved Democratic officials.
