On Tuesday, a tragic incident unfolded at Franconia Falls as a Massachusetts woman lost her life while attempting to rescue her son from a swift and swirling current.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department reported that Melissa Bagley, 44, of Lynn, along with her family and a family friend from Salem, had embarked on a trip to Franconia Falls, arriving at the Lincoln Woods trailhead at 1 p.m.
During their visit to the falls, an unfortunate incident occurred when the family’s 10-year-old son slipped and fell into one of the pools, WCVB reported.
Responding to her maternal instincts, Melissa Bagley, the boy’s mother, leaped into the river to aid her child but quickly encountered difficulties.
In a brave response, two other children also entered the river to assist their sibling and mother.
While they successfully managed to rescue their brother from the water, one of the siblings became trapped among the boulders, unable to free themselves.
The children’s father, Lt. Sean Bagley of the Everett Police Department, who was actively searching for his wife, eventually located her perched on a rock. Without delay, he initiated CPR in an attempt to revive her.
“Unfortunately, she was unable to be revived,” reads a statement from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
