The special counsel, David Weiss, stated in a court filing on Tuesday that the favorable plea deal previously extended to Hunter Biden has been officially revoked and rendered invalid.
Hunter Biden’s legal team contended on Sunday that the conditions outlined in the unsuccessful plea deal, including the “diversion agreement,” should still hold.
This diversion agreement had granted Hunter Biden immunity from potential forthcoming charges, Breitbart News reported.
In an attempt to ensure adherence to the unorthodox agreement, Hunter Biden’s attorneys sought to corner Weiss by asserting that the government had backtracked on a previously established Plea Agreement.
Prosecutors, however, countered these assertions, asserting otherwise.
Upon careful examination by the judge, the initial plea arrangement disintegrated. As a result, prosecutors anticipate the matter proceeding to trial, with the likely trial locations being Delaware or California.
Initially, the arrangement provided Hunter Biden the option to admit guilt for his failure to pay taxes on earnings surpassing $1.5 million during 2017 and 2018.
This admission would have led to probation instead of imprisonment.
Moreover, Weiss introduced a distinct diversionary pact that granted Hunter Biden immunity from prospective charges, encompassing a clause aimed at effectively expunging a felony firearm violation from his record.
