Special counsel obtained Trump’s Twitter direct messages

In the midst of the legal proceedings, special counsel Jack Smith pursued an examination of former President Trump’s direct messages, draft tweets, and location data.

This effort unfolded as his office grappled to gather information pertaining to Trump’s presence on X, formerly recognized as Twitter, The Hill has reported.

Recently unsealed court documents provide a deeper insight into the specifics of what prosecutors aimed to uncover when they issued a subpoena for records linked to the Twitter account in January.

This request was ultimately granted by the court. The particulars of these proceedings emerge from hearings that transpired in February under the purview of then-U.S. District Court Chief Judge Beryl Howell.

Throughout these hearings, Judge Howell consistently raised queries about whether the resistance displayed by the company reflected an attempt by newly appointed CEO Elon Musk to foster a close relationship with Trump.

Twitter’s resistance to disclosing the information was predominantly attributed to a plea from the Justice Department, urging them to withhold the request from Trump.
