Air Force building jet of future

The startup manufacturer will receive a $235 million investment from the US Air Force to facilitate the creation of an advanced and highly efficient state-of-the-art aircraft.

This innovative aircraft, featuring a blended-wing body, is anticipated by officials to offer enhanced range and efficiency, particularly beneficial for military tankers and cargo planes.

There is also future potential for it to serve in the realm of commercial airline passenger transport, the Daily Mirror has reported.

JetZero and the Air Force, in a joint announcement made on Wednesday, expressed their aspiration for the full-scale prototype aircraft to be prepared for flight by 2027.

In contrast to conventional aircraft, which consist of separate fuselage, wings, and tail sections, blended-wing planes are conceived with an integrated body and wings, resulting in a sleek and futuristic appearance while minimizing aerodynamic drag.

This design philosophy ultimately contributes to a more streamlined and fuel-efficient aircraft, as compared to traditional counterparts.

The proponents at JetZero contend that the conventional avenues for enhancing fuel efficiency in aircraft are becoming increasingly limited.
