CNN’s senior legal analyst, Elie Honig, expressed his confusion on Monday regarding the Department of Justice’s handling of the Hunter Biden investigation.
He characterized it as creating “a real mess” and foresees that the department will inevitably have to confront the consequences of its actions, Fox News reported.
During the afternoon segment on “The Lead,” show host Erica Hill concurred with Honig, emphasizing that the Department of Justice is at risk of eroding the “public trust” due to its approach in managing the probe.
The segment highlighted a recent New York Times article that delved into the case involving Hunter Biden.
It revealed that now-special counsel David Weiss had contemplated dropping the case earlier this year until IRS whistleblowers came forward with allegations of misconduct.
With Weiss now heading the investigation as special counsel, Hill remarked to Honig that this progression in the case is “quite the evolution.”
She also pointed out that the DOJ’s conduct appears to be unconventional.
