Food delivery robots are being robbed in the US

Utilizing food delivery and grocery robots presents a highly effective and expeditious means of serving meals to customers.

Numerous players have entered this domain, including the Estonian ride-hailing company Bolt, which declared in June 2023 its intent to employ autonomous robots for food delivery in Talinn.

This initiative stemmed from a collaborative effort with robotics firm Starship Technologies. The latter had previously broadened its fleet of self-directed food delivery robots to campuses across the United States in 2019, Interesting Engineering reported.

However, the operations of such ventures encounter challenges, particularly the recent trend of vandalism and theft involving these efficient machines in the US.

This behavior has the potential to adversely impact the operations of overseeing companies and necessitates replacement orders for restaurants and grocery stores.

Earlier this month, KTLA5, a news outlet in Los Angeles, reported the emergence of viral videos capturing instances of individuals kicking and forcibly opening these robots to pilfer packages or simply vandalize them.

Concurrently, Serve Robots, a company providing autonomous delivery vehicles in West Hollywood, relayed to the news outlet that despite recent instances of vandalism, they maintain a 99.9% success rate in their delivery operations.
