President Joe Biden is often described as “old” and “confused,” while former President Donald Trump is frequently labeled as “corrupt” and “dishonest.”
These are the prominent terms that emerge when Americans are asked to characterize the Democratic leader in the White House and the Republican figure best positioned to challenge him in the upcoming year’s election.
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research conducted a recent poll that prompted participants to share their thoughts on Biden and Trump. This survey underscores unflattering portrayals of both individuals.
Regarding Biden, the majority of American adults, encompassing both Democrats and Republicans, emphasized his age as a dominant aspect, the Associated Press reported.
Despite being only three years older than Trump at 80 years old, many citizens expressed genuine concerns about his capacity to effectively serve as president.
In contrast, Trump’s profile elicits associations with legal issues, as he faces indictments in four cases involving a total of 91 criminal charges.
Terms like “corrupt” and “crooked” (cited by 15%) are commonly linked to him, alongside generally unfavorable descriptions like “bad” and other negative sentiments (noted by 11%).
Additional terms such as “liar” and “dishonest” (mentioned by 8%) also come up. Conversely, 8% of respondents offered positive descriptions like “good.”
A more in-depth analysis of the poll findings does little to enhance the public perception of either Biden or Trump.
Although many of the criticisms align with the expected partisan divisions, the survey highlights that both individuals face criticism even from members within their own respective parties.
