Chicago news team robbed at gunpoint during report on armed robberies in the city

In a distressing incident, a Univision news team in Chicago fell victim to an armed robbery on Monday morning while covering a recent series of armed robberies in the city known as the Windy City.

Around 5:00 AM, a reporter and a photographer were conducting their coverage in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in the West Town neighborhood.

At this point, three individuals wearing ski masks emerged from two vehicles, as detailed by both Univision and Chicago police sources, Fox News reported.

The masked men proceeded to approach the news crew, wielding firearms, and demanded that the team surrender their money.

Following this, they proceeded to search the crew’s SUV. Raza Siddiqui, the President of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET-CWA) Local 41, noted that the suspects made off with a camera, two bags of film equipment, and the photographer’s backpack.

Despite the traumatic event, the news crew remained physically unharmed, as reported by the Chicago Sun Times.

Ironically, the journalists were covering a series of armed robberies taking place in Chicago at that very moment.

One of these incidents occurred on the same block where the news crew was robbed and involved a woman whose car was stolen.

This occurrence marks the second incident this month where a Chicago TV news crew has fallen victim to a robbery.

On August 5, an ABC 7 photographer was attacked and robbed while reporting on a news conference in the 200 block of West 5th Avenue.
