The ambassador of France to Niger remains present in the coup-affected Sahel nation, in defiance of an ultimatum issued by the recently established military leadership for him to vacate his position.
French President Emmanuel Macron disclosed this information on Monday while delivering a significant foreign policy address to diplomats in Paris, Vanguard reported.
During his speech, Macron verified that the French envoy, Sylvain Itte, was actively engaged in Niamey, the capital of Niger, despite the 48-hour timeframe he was granted to depart the country, a deadline that lapsed last Friday.
Simultaneously, the European Union conveyed its unwavering support for the French ambassador to Niger on Monday, in the wake of the demand for his expulsion made by the soldiers who seized control of the nation.
