The individual responsible for the Jacksonville shooting was formerly employed at a dollar store. He initially intended to visit one but changed his plans after encountering a security guard.
Instead, he proceeded to target the nearby Dollar General, resulting in the tragic deaths of three individuals.
According to Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, the shooter worked at a Dollar Tree store from October 2021 to July 2022.
As mentioned during a news conference on Monday, he also visited a Family Dollar store on Saturday, the Associated Press has reported.
Subsequently, he arrived at Edward Waters University, where he put on tactical gear. He left the scene when security personnel approached him.
“Based off what we saw: him stopping off at the Family Dollar and working at a Dollar Tree previously and then him going to Dollar General, that was his intent the whole time,” Waters said. “Why that store? Still hard to tell.”
In audio made public on Tuesday from a 911 call, the father of the gunman revealed that his son had discontinued his psychiatric medication and had become reclusive in his room after abandoning his college education and losing his job.
Additional documents indicate that the 21-year-old had previous interactions with law enforcement during his teenage years, including an incident related to a suicide threat that resulted in a compulsory psychiatric assessment.
