Law enforcement authorities announced on Wednesday that a 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old during an Oklahoma high school football game.
Deputies, in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies, apprehended the boy without any complications early on Wednesday in Spencer, an Oklahoma City suburb.
Sheriff Tommie Johnson III of Oklahoma County indicated that the boy’s identity remains undisclosed due to his status as a juvenile, the Associated Press reported.
For further inquiries, Johnson directed attention to the Choctaw police, who are leading the investigation into the incident.
The investigation involves the discharge of a firearm by an off-duty police officer during the exchange of gunfire.
This occurred while the off-duty officer, alongside another off-duty Del City officer, was providing security for the Del City team participating in the game held in Choctaw, located to the east of Oklahoma City.
Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall confirmed that no additional suspects are being pursued, although the investigation is ongoing.
