On Sunday, U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his disappointment over the absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 leaders’ summit in India.

Nevertheless, he mentioned that he would have an opportunity to meet with him.

Biden shared his sentiments with reporters in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, stating, “I am disappointed … but I am going to get to see him,” without providing further details, Reuters reported.

The President’s upcoming itinerary includes a visit to India from September 7 to 10 for the G20 summit, followed by a trip to Vietnam, as his administration continues its efforts to bolster U.S. relations in the Asian region.

It is anticipated that Xi will opt out of attending the summit, with sources familiar with the matter indicating that Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to represent Beijing at the gathering in New Delhi, as reported by Reuters.

When questioned about his forthcoming trip, Biden affirmed, “Yes, I am.”
