Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, is preparing to embark on a journey to Russia later this month for a crucial meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
The purpose of their meeting, as relayed by American and allied officials, revolves around discussions regarding the potential supply of additional weaponry to support Russia’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine and exploring broader avenues of military collaboration.
This excursion represents a rare departure from North Korea for Kim, who is expected to travel from Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, most likely by armored train, to reach Vladivostok on Russia’s Pacific Coast.
While the possibility of a visit to Moscow exists, it remains uncertain at this time, DNYUZ reported.
Putin’s agenda includes persuading Mr. Kim to agree to furnish Russia with artillery shells and antitank missiles, while Kim seeks advanced satellite technology and nuclear-powered submarine capabilities from Russia.
Additionally, Kim is keen on securing food assistance for his nation, which grapples with economic challenges.
Both leaders are scheduled to converge at the Far Eastern Federal University campus in Vladivostok, where they will attend the Eastern Economic Forum, spanning from September 10 to 13, as per the officials.
Kim also intends to pay a visit to Pier 33, where naval vessels from Russia’s Pacific fleet are docked. It’s noteworthy that North Korea observes the anniversary of its founding on September 9.
