Lithium deposit found in US may be among world’s largest, study finds

A newly uncovered lithium deposit located along the border of Nevada and Oregon may rank among the world’s largest, carrying potentially significant implications for the electric vehicle transition.

Volcanologists and geologists hailing from the Lithium Americas Corporation, GNS Science, and Oregon State University have documented their findings in a paper published on August 31 in Science Advances.

This extensive deposit is situated within the McDermitt Caldera, spanning approximately 28 miles in length and 22 miles in width, Fox Business reported.

Estimates suggest that the caldera harbors a staggering 20 to 40 million metric tons of lithium, a quantity that surpasses deposits found in Chile and Australia by a considerable margin.
