Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, initiated legal action against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on Monday, alleging that his privacy rights had been infringed upon when IRS agents publicly expressed concerns to Congress and the media regarding the handling of the investigation into his tax and business affairs.

In a comprehensive 27-page lawsuit, Hunter Biden’s legal representatives focused on two specific IRS agents, namely Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, who had asserted that officials from the Justice Department obstructed and delayed the inquiry into the president’s son.

Hunter Biden’s legal team contended that, in raising concerns about the management of the criminal investigation, these two agents divulged information that federal law stipulates should remain confidential, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Emphasizing that Hunter Biden possesses no fewer rights than any other American citizen, the legal team stated, “Mr. Biden has the same rights as any other citizen, and no government agency or representative can violate those rights solely because of his identity.”

An IRS spokesperson declined to provide comment.

The agents have maintained that they appropriately conveyed their concerns through internal channels and that their disclosures to Congress adhered to legal guidelines.

In response, Shapley’s legal counsel issued a statement characterizing the lawsuit as “yet another baseless attempt by attorneys representing the Biden family to divert attention from Hunter Biden’s legal issues and to intimidate potential current and future whistleblowers.”
