Federal prosecutors are intensifying their examination of personal benefits that Tesla CEO Elon Musk may have received since 2017, a timeframe longer than previously disclosed.
This scrutiny is part of a criminal investigation that encompasses various issues, including a proposed residence for Musk.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York is also actively seeking information regarding transactions involving Tesla and other entities connected to the billionaire entrepreneur.
It has been noted that prosecutors have alluded to the involvement of a grand jury, the Wall Street Journal has reported.
This fresh information signifies that federal prosecutors possess a more extensive interest in the actions of both Musk and Tesla than was previously known, and they are actively pursuing potential criminal charges.
The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that the Justice Department was investigating Tesla’s utilization of company resources for a clandestine project referred to internally as a residence for Musk.
This housing initiative, known as “Project 42” within the company, entailed plans for an expansive glass structure to be built in close proximity to Tesla’s facilities in the Austin area.
Furthermore, it has been reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has initiated a separate civil investigation into this project.
