RFK Jr. Flirts With Libertarian Party

For several months, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has maintained his intention to persist in his unlikely challenge against President Biden within the Democratic primary, rather than opting for a third-party candidacy.

However, there have been recent indications of a potential shift in Mr. Kennedy’s stance, including publicly stating that he is keeping his “options open” when questioned by a voter.

Should Mr. Kennedy decide to depart from the political lineage of his famous father and uncles and enter the general election as an independent candidate, one potential avenue could be the Libertarian Party, DNYUZ reported.

Currently lacking a widely recognized candidate, the Libertarian Party has demonstrated proficiency in securing ballot access.

In July, Mr. Kennedy held a private meeting with Angela McArdle, the chair of the Libertarian Party, during a conference they both attended in Memphis—an encounter not previously reported.

During this meeting, Ms. McArdle recalled Mr. Kennedy emphasizing his commitment to running as a Democrat but also expressing strong libertarian leanings.

Democrats are apprehensive that in a general election, a third-party candidacy by Mr. Kennedy could siphon votes away from President Biden and potentially aid former President Donald J. Trump.

Similar concerns have been voiced regarding No Labels, a bipartisan group seeking a moderate third-party candidate, and Cornel West, a progressive scholar already in the running for the Green Party’s 2024 ticket.
