On Tuesday, North Korea accused the United States of turning 2023 into an “extremely dangerous year,” alleging that U.S. actions are aimed at provoking a nuclear conflict.

It condemned the leaders of both the United States and South Korea for their “hysterical remarks of confrontation” which it claims is escalating tensions in the region.

Kim Song, North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations, also asserted that Washington was endeavoring to establish an “the Asian version of NATO,” drawing parallels with the military alliance that comprises European nations, the United States, and Canada.

In his address to global leaders, Kim adopted a more confrontational tone than in his previous appearance at the U.N. General Assembly last year, the Associated Press reported.

Such forceful rhetoric is notable, particularly coming from a nation in the process of developing its nuclear program.

However, it is not unusual for Pyongyang, a government that sometimes employs exaggeration in its public statements for strategic purposes.
