On Sunday, President Joe Biden reassured allies that the flow of American aid to Ukraine will continue for the time being. However, he issued a warning to Congress, emphasizing that time is running out.
In remarks from the Roosevelt Room, Biden stressed, “we cannot under any circumstances allow American for Ukraine to be interrupted,”
This statement came after Congress passed a short-term funding package late Saturday, which omitted assistance for Ukraine in its battle against Russia, thus averting a government shutdown.
“We have time, not much time, and there’s an overwhelming sense of urgency,” Biden added with a sense of urgency, pointing out that the funding bill is set to expire in mid-November, the Associated Press reported.
He urged Congress to swiftly engage in negotiations to secure an aid package.
However, a significant number of legislators recognize that obtaining Congressional approval for Ukraine assistance is becoming increasingly challenging as the conflict continues.
Opposition to the aid from Republicans has been gaining traction, and the path forward is uncertain, especially in light of resistance from the conservative faction.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York has initiated a process to potentially discuss legislation for additional Ukraine aid.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, faces a tougher challenge in upholding his commitment, made despite objections from nearly half of his GOP majority.
