Connecticut’s most comprehensive gun control legislation since the 2013 law, which was enacted in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, is set to take effect on Sunday.

Advocates for gun control are determined to push for further firearm regulations, despite ongoing legal challenges taking place nationwide.

This new law, endorsed by Democratic Governor Ned Lamont in June, imposes restrictions such as prohibiting the open carrying of firearms and limiting the sale of more than three handguns to a single individual within a 30-day period, with certain exceptions for instructors and other specific cases.

Shortly after its passage, the law faced legal challenges from supporters of gun rights, NBC News reported.

Furthermore, Connecticut’s landmark 2013 gun legislation, introduced in response to the tragic 2012 elementary school shooting in Newtown that claimed the lives of 26 individuals, is also currently under legal scrutiny.

Despite adverse weather conditions characterized by rain and chilly temperatures, approximately 150 gun rights activists gathered outside the state Capitol on Saturday.

They assembled to observe the final day when openly carrying a firearm was permitted in Connecticut.

These activists maintain their optimism that the law will ultimately be overturned in the courts, contending that it represents an encroachment on Second Amendment rights and is deemed unnecessary.
